On receipt
Record the compound, lot number, quantity and receipt date before anything is opened, and check that the lot on the label matches the certificate supplied for that shipment. Keeping this record from day one means any later question about the material can be traced to a specific documented lot.
Temperature and environment
Lyophilized peptides are generally held refrigerated or frozen, protected from light and from moisture ingress. Repeated movement between temperature zones exposes the powder to condensation each time a cold vial is opened in ambient air, so allow sealed vials to equilibrate before handling and minimise the number of freeze-thaw excursions.
What documentation covers
A Certificate of Analysis describes the material at the time of analysis. It does not certify storage conditions in transit or in your facility, which is why your own inventory log matters as much as the supplier's paperwork. Note storage location and temperature alongside the lot record.
