Storage is the single largest controllable source of variance in peptide research. This guide covers handling for lyophilized vials, reconstituted solutions, transit conditions, and the record-keeping that makes a result reproducible. Research use only — not for human consumption.
Lyophilized vials
In lyophilized (freeze-dried) form, research peptides are comparatively robust. Standard practice is refrigeration at 2–8°C, protected from light, in the original sealed vial. Short excursions to room temperature during transit are normal and are why we pack with insulation appropriate for the route. For long-hold inventory, freezing the unopened lyophilized vial extends the usable window; allow the vial to reach room temperature before breaking the seal so condensation does not form inside.
Reconstituted solutions
Once bacteriostatic water is introduced, the working window shortens considerably. Keep reconstituted vials refrigerated, upright, and away from light. Avoid freeze-thaw cycling — repeated cycles are the most common cause of unexplained potency loss between runs. Record the reconstitution date and volume on the vial itself rather than in a separate log, so the concentration travels with the material.
Light, agitation, and adsorption
Several research peptides are light-sensitive; amber storage or a closed box removes that variable entirely. Avoid vigorous shaking during reconstitution — direct the bacteriostatic water down the vial wall and let the cake dissolve. For low-concentration solutions, adsorption to container surfaces can measurably reduce available peptide, which is one reason working dilutions should be prepared close to the time of use.
Transit and receiving checks
On arrival, inspect the vial for an intact seal, an intact lyophilized cake, and a legible lot number that matches the Certificate of Analysis. A collapsed or discoloured cake, or a lot mismatch, should be reported before use.
